Tell us a bit about yourself and your company:

Hi there, I’m Michele! In 2004 I confessed to my college roommate that I’d fall in love with him.  One month later we graduated with our photography degrees and one week following that we started this business together.  12 years later we’re still crazy in love and believe documenting a couple’s first day of marriage is the best job ever.  We live in the Colorado Rockies and specialize in mountain weddings throughout this incredible state.

See more after the cut!

How did you get into wedding photography?

Mark & I studied photography at the Art Institute where the curriculum was centered around commercial photography – advertising, editorial, fashion and the like.  Towards the end of school I realized I wanted to create work that wasn’t so disposable.  Wedding photography was the perfect answer.  I love creating photographs that will be enjoyed for a lifetime and passed down to future generations as part of a family’s history.

What is your favorite part of the wedding day to capture?

I love that moment of celebration immediately after the recessional, I also love a great toast.  But the father/daughter relationship really tugs at my heart strings and is probably my most favorite thing to capture.

What is the most awkward moment you’ve experienced while on the job?

Oh boy, after 12 years and a few hundred weddings, I’ve seen a few things.  I won’t get specific but I will say, I’ve seen more than one toast that should have been given before the drinks were served.

What is your favorite venue and why?

We spend every weekend at weddings that are either on a mountain or in a meadow so it’s hard to choose a fave.  I’d have to say Beano’s Cabin in Beaver Creek since it has three of my favorite things: beautiful mountain views, dreamy aspen trees and phenomenal food.

Nikon or Canon? Canon.

What is your dream location to shoot a wedding? Anywhere in Iceland.  Until then, I’d settle for Dunton Hot Springs in Southwestern Colorado, that place looks incredible.

If you could shoot any celebrity wedding (past, present or future), who would be the lucky couple?

Monica & Chandler.  Hopefully they would refer us to Ross & Rachel : )

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned, and would pass along to other new wedding photographers just getting started?

Treat the vendors and venues as if they’re repeat clients.  Be friendly, cooperative and professional.  They’re referrals are priceless.

What tips or advice can you give to couples who are looking to hire a photographer to cover their big day?

You only get one shot at finding the perfect photographer so dig a little deeper than just trying to meet your budget and find pretty pictures you like.  Ask for reviews/references.  Ask to view a complete wedding to see if their work is consistent.  Ask them how they handle bad lighting conditions, uncooperative family members, timeline delays and the like.  Finally, if they don’t respond to your initial e-mails in a timely fashion, you can probably count on your photo delivery to take a while too.
